Yesterday was 3th of January 2011 and today is 25th of March 2011. Time really passed fast in this three month when I was working here, in ExxonMobil. Well, on the first day when I came to this company, it brings me into the world of social, world of working life. On the 17th floor of ExxonMobil, is the Human Resources Department, a department which full of joy all the time during working hour, everyone here are friendly and all of the work together, work as a family. The department has lots of room as each of the employees owns one room includes me, which was just a temporary clerk. Human Resources is a department which required communication skill among each others as the job scope in this department was dealing with human.
In this 3 month time, I worked before in the HR – Benefits team and Payroll team. Although is was the same department, but things they do in this two team is different, one is dealing with Company Benefits, Employees Benefits while another is about money issue, pay, income tax. However, I quite enjoy my self here in both the team as they are friendly, willing to teach and fun! I had also learn a lot during this 3 month time based, as in communication skill, social skill, and management skill as in time management and job management.
Working at here, Human Resources – ExxonMobil, it really bring me to know more about working life, more about the importance of teamwork to complete a certain task, allow me to know more about how a such big company to manage this thousand employees. With all this, I believe it will help me a lot when the time I graduate and start working in the future. It was a quite good experience to expose my self to a world of working life. I also appreciate much to my people in office which teach me much about the department, about the working style of the department. Without them, I definitely will not enjoy my self here. Without them, I will not learn anything too.
I still remember clearly, the first day I came here, I was really surprise that I will own a small office room and my boss also bring me from one room to another and introduce me to them. At that time, all of them were like so stranger to me and I don’t even could remember their name. Beside that, I still remember my boss didn’t introduce me to Lee, when I meet him, he was so friendly and introduce himself to me. Although on the first day, all of them were so stranger to me, but them, I do know them; know every single one of them. In these 3 months, time really moves very fast and soon I will start my college life which everything will be new to me again. I will be leaving the team, the department, the company today. Perhaps, one day in the future I will be back here – ExxonMobil Human Resources as a candidate of interview. I will be looking forward for that day to come.
Of course, in such warming department, all of us usually have lunch together, since the first day, when my boss bring me to the level 6 cafeteria, people from our department were all on the same table, talking joke together. I still remember that before the Chinese New Year holiday, 10 of us from the HR went to eat a lunch at a restaurant. And that was my first free lunch. After the Chinese New Year, I still remember that the big boss from Thailand came down and the department buying him lunch at a Double Tree Hotel. This was my second free lunch. Just the next day, HR had a Get Together Lunch at the Petroleum Club on the 44th floor of KLCC. The place was so grand and everyone was still in the New Year mood. At here, the money paid by the department is more on buying the venue but not the food, the view here was awesome. This is my third free lunch here. Is quite enjoying having lunch together with the one you work, with the boss in your department. Well, is the get together activity goal. Beside that, I am working at the Payroll side in February, the payroll team had their year end closing lunch – appreciate lunch at the PNB Park. And here, once again a memorable lunch. However, in March, I was working for the Benefits/Admin Group again, and just the few day pass, the department supervisor and the team buying me a lunch at Taman Wahyu, some where around Selayang. We went for the E&O Curry Fish Head for a lunch. The feeling having lunch with them is really great and is hard to describe the feeling. In a conclusion, I enjoyed my self with them a lot.
Working at here of course is not about the free lunch, is more on what I had learn here, what I had experience here, did I grew to be more mature after experience working life here. I am really thankful that I have the chance to work in ExxonMobil for the previous three month and I really did learn a lot here compare to the previous me. When schooling life, I might be a key man, but when coming out to a new environment, I still need to learn, I will still have much to learn. In here, I had learn that it is importance to cooperate with the people you are working and show the sincere of your working to your boss and it will bring you convenience throughout your working. Lying will not help in your career while admitting the truth of your fault will let others to respect on your. So, why not gain others respect instead of lying to others just to cover up the failure that had happen?
